IndyCar team recruits military vets and first responders for Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge

Source: Fox 59 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - In honor of the Memorial Day Weekend, historically, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy 500 recognize our service men and women and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. This year, one IndyCar team is keeping with that tradition in a unique way. PIRTEK Team Murray is entering a rookie crew of military veterans and first responders to compete in this year’s Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge. The challenge is simple. The crew that can change all four tires and fuel the car as quick as possible wins the competition. Joining forces with the team is the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation. Taya Kyle, wife of fallen Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle helped select some of the veterans and first responders who make up the CK Crew. Kyle said it is an honor to spend Memorial Day Weekend at the 100th Indianapolis 500 with this crew of heroes. “It’s one of those things where you do it- You go one step in faith and you just hope for the best, but then it feels like it’s gone to a much deeper level and to me that’s cool, I think the bonds that they are forming here are gonna last a lifetime. I would not have thought that going in, but from what I’ve seen that will happen," said Kyle. Two former Navy SEALS, firefighters from San Diego, Chicago and Indianapolis along with the most decorated New York City Police officer make up the team. The CK Crew, named after Kyle will train for 30 hours before this Friday’s competition. Driver Matt Brabham will start the number 61 PIRTEK Team Murray car in row 9 in Sunday’s 100th Indy 500. The mission of the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation (CKFF) is to honor God, Country and Families who serve by providing experiences that strengthen military and first responder marriages and families. CKFF’s signature program started with the launch of CKFF Revitalization Retreats, which are focused directly on supporting military and first responder marriages. CKFF Revitalization Retreats provide service couples with experiences that provide new common ground, and then additional support resources designed to empower married couples with practical tools that improve communication and reduce conflict. Warner Bros. Supports Chris Kyle Frog Foundation Indy 500 Pit Crew

Source: pirtekusa.com PIRTEK Team Murray and the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation have created a unique program that will see six military service veterans and first responders from across North America molded into a pit crew for this year’s 100th Indianapolis 500 celebrations in May. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) worked with Team Murray and the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation to create the concept and WBHE will be using the pit crew program to launch American Sniper: The Chris Kyle Commemorative Edition Blu-ray on May 3. The pit crew will be housed in Indianapolis for the 10 days leading up to the event and will be trained and coached by some of the sport’s leading fitness and movement professionals, including Pit Fit’s Jim Leo. Training complete, they will then be PIRTEK Team Murray’s entry into the TAG Heuer Pit Crew Challenge on Coors Lite Carb Day, Friday May 27, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The program was officially launched today by Kyle’s wife and PIRTEK Team Murray ambassador – Taya Kyle – at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg in Florida, the opening round of the Verizon IndyCar Series.Taya, the wife of Chris Kyle and best selling author of American Wife, was joined by PIRTEK Team Murray founder, Brett “Crusher” Murray, driver Matt Brabham and former Navy SEAL, David Rutherford, who was announced as the first member of the CK Crew. Rutherford, who is based in Florida, served eight years in the Naval Special Warfare Community, leaving the services in 2003. He works as a motivational speaker with many of the world’s biggest companies under the banner of Team Froglogic, using his SEAL training to develop the competitive edge for those organizations. An advocate for the recognition and treatment of PTSD among the military community, he is also a regular podcaster and radio host, Performance Coach, musician, poet and author who has published three books, including the best selling Self Confidence. The remaining five members of the crew have been personally selected by Taya Kyle and will be announced during the coming weeks. The remaining five members of the crew, a mixture of first responders, active military service personnel and veterans, have been personally selected by Taya Kyle and will be announced during the coming weeks. The CK Crew concept was born from Chris Kyle’s appreciation for the teamwork that pit crews display in going about their job. It was the one thing about motorsport that stood out to him some years ago when first attending a NASCAR race – Chris taking the time to speak with the crew, commenting at the time that the precision, toughness and the ability to work as one for the common goal reminded him of his military unit. Funds raised through the program will be used by the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation to build programs that allow military service, veteran and first responder families to reconnect post-deployment. The six CK Crew Members and Supporters will be included in a host of experiences including a ride in a two-seater IndyCar, being the guests of honor at a team dinner, team-bonding go-kart challenge with Matt Brabham, team hospitality and being included in the pre-race activities on the grid as guests of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Foundation will be using the Indianapolis 500 and other major Verizon IndyCar Series events throughout the year as a basis to allow military and first responders to re-engage and enhance their family units. PIRTEK Team Murray will field a car in this year’s 100th Indianapolis 500 for Matt Brabham, achieving the milestone of seeing the Brabham family becoming just the third family to have three generations compete in the race. The US arm of Australian founded PIRTEK Fluid Systems has taken the naming rights of the team which has a technical partnership with KV Racing Technology, who won the Indy 2013 with Tony Kanaan. WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY: DAVID RUTHERFORD – CK CREW MEMBER – FORMER NAVY SEAL “I can’t wait for this competition and am so thankful to Taya, the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation and PIRTEK Team Murray for giving me this opportunity,” said David Rutherford. “We’ll be using plenty of SEAL Team thinking come the TAG Heuer Pit Stop Competition on May 27 and I think that with the team we are putting together with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and the support of the military community on that Memorial Day Weekend – we can be unstoppable!” TAYA KYLE – Executive Director, Chris Kyle Frog Foundation “The whole experience with PIRTEK Team Murray has been a pleasure and it is wonderful that we have been able to bring the CK Crew program to life,” said Taya Kyle. “Chris was so impressed with the dedication and talent of the pit crew during an up close experience at a NASCAR race. He could relate to the pit crew where each member of the team had their specialty and relied on the others to do their work, injured or not, with no excuses, no mistakes and intense speed in order to ensure success of the mission. “I am sure the six members of the CK Crew and their partners will have an experience they will never forget, but also the hundreds of other worthy recipients we intend to involve around the country. It is a great chance for supporters of the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation, our military and first responders to get involved as a donor to the CK Crew. “Not only will they have an awesome experience right across the Indy 500 weekend, their donations will allows us to assist many families that have done so much to support and serve our country over many years. BRETT “CRUSHER” MURRAY – OWNER, PIRTEK TEAM MURRAY “When we established the relationship with Taya (Kyle) and the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation, we already had this program in the pipeline and we are delighted that with the initial help of Warner Bros. Entertainment and some partners we have made it a reality,” said Murray. “The opportunity we have created for six companies to become involved in this specific program and be part of our team and support the CK Crew is something truly exciting. It gives those who invest in the program the chance to donate to one of the most high profile military, veteran and first responder-supporting Foundations in the United States. “We have to thank Warner Bros. Entertainment for their support and their vision to use this program to launch the limited edition DVD of American Sniper which will be available in stores around the country on May 29 – race day!” JAY FRYE – INDYCAR PRESIDENT OF COMPETITION AND OPERATIONS “All of us at the Verizon IndyCar Series are proud to support the CK Crew program, which will be a great addition to the TAG Heuer Pit Stop Challenge this May. “Honoring members of the military is one of many traditions at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and we’re thankful to PIRTEK Team Murray, Warner Brothers and Taya Kyle for their efforts in putting this program together.” ABOUT AMERICAN SNIPER: THE CHRIS KYLE COMMEMORATIVE EDITION: On May 3, fans of director Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper” will have the opportunity to revisit the acclaimed drama and learn even more fascinating details about the real American war hero Chris Kyle and the Navy SEALS he fought with. “American Sniper: The Chris Kyle Commemorative Edition” arrives as a two-disc Blu-ray from Warner Bros. PitFit Training’s Jim Leo Rows 50,000 Meters for Charity

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 19, 2016) - Last weekend, PitFit Training owner Jim Leo celebrated his 50th birthday in spectacular fashion, to raise money for a good cause while surrounded by friends. Despite modest initial goals, he was instead overwhelmed by the support of the motorsports community. Through "Birthdays for St. Jude," Leo decided to use his milestone birthday to raise $1,000 for the Children's Research Hospital by rowing 50 kilometers at his PitFit Training Facility. Instead, Leo's efforts raised $4,005, with all proceeds going directly to the hospital. Leo, joined by IndyCar Champion, PitFit client, and friend Scott Dixon, rowed the 50,000 meters in three hours and 32 minutes, burning roughly 2,500 calories. IMG_1176 (2)A steady stream of supporters, including IndyCar drivers Pippa Mann and James Hinchcliffe, came through the facility over the course of the event, with some even rowing alongside the 50k duo for portions of the challenge. As Leo and Dixon each rowed roughly 31 miles without a break, friends remained on hand to provide drinks, wipe sweaty brows and add layers of additional seat cushioning. "I thought Jim was kind of crazy when he brought it up," Dixon said. "Obviously people don't do this kind of stuff on their birthday. Jim is a hell of an athlete in his own right, and he always tries to set milestones for his birthdays, especially the big ones. 50,000 meters is definitely a feat for most people. I'm not even sure how many have done it at one time on a rower. I thought all I could do was come join along and help out, if I could. It was a lot of fun. He's a machine. At 50 years old, it's crazy." "It's very special to celebrate your 50th birthday doing something that you love, raising money for a tremendous cause, and doing it alongside your best friend," an exhausted Leo added. "Having the support of the racing community and having your best friend and everyone you care for near you is the best present anyone could receive. As painful as it was, I'm extremely proud to have achieved this with Scott." About PitFit Training PitFit Training is an industry leader in the development and implementation of motorsports-specific human performance training and lists clients from Formula One, IndyCar, NASCAR, NHRA, Grand-Am, ALMS, USAC and numerous junior level auto racing series.
